The "Asking for it?" initiative, a collaboration between the Leo Club and Rotaract Club of Horizon Campus, boldly addressed sexual harassment and victim blaming. Through an educational panel discussion, interactive Q&A session, and practical self-defense training, the project aimed to challenge toxic narratives, empower individuals, and advocate for a society free from stigma and victim blaming.
Visionary Voyage was an initiative project conducted by the Professional Development Avenue of the Rotaract Club of Horizon Campus in collaboration with the Environmental Society of D.S. Senanayake College. The project aimed to equip budding naturalists with essential skills for both professional and personal growth. It was implemented in two phases: the first focused on environmental stewardship, guiding individuals to embrace their roles as naturalists and advocates for sustainability under the leadership of Dr. P.B. Terney Pradeep Kumara, while the second phase centered on professional development, providing tools and training for a smooth transition into the professional world with an emphasis on ethical leadership, led by Ms. Nethma Krishnamali. The initiative targeted students from various schools in Colombo, particularly those transitioning from O/L to A/L and those in leadership roles, and was held on 25th October at 2:00 p.m. in the Mini Auditorium of D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo 07.
Mosquigo project conducted by the Community service avenue aimed to eradicate disease spreading mosquitoes in the campus vicinity. This project spanned over the course of 3 weeks and contained an awareness session, a fumigation session to destroy vectors and conducted a house visit.
CleanUp Sri Lanka is an initiative organized by the Rotaract District 3220 to make a greener and cleaner Sri Lanka. The Rotaract Club of Horizon Campus successfully participated in this project by cleaning the area around Wellivita and handing over the collected waste to Neptune Recyclers in order to promote sustainable waste management.
The Panagahena Parisara project, led by the Rotaract Club of Horizon Campus, launched with Nil Kaaban Kathandare (The Blue Carbon Tale), a workshop exploring the vital Blue Carbon ecosystems. Partnering with the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka and Nilai University, this event featured engaging talks and hands-on simulations that brought these ecosystems to life. Students from 16 schools participated, gaining insights into marine life’s role in climate change and receiving certificates to recognize their commitment to conservation. Inspired, they left as advocates for Blue Carbon awareness within their communities.
E Machan was a vibrant initiative designed to celebrate the spirit of Friendship Day by fostering fellowship and camaraderie. The project featured a variety of engaging and fun-filled activities, including a Bestie Card competition, open mic sessions, dance performances, and interactive ice-breakers. These events provided participants with an opportunity to connect, express themselves creatively, and strengthen bonds of friendship in an atmosphere of joy and inclusivity.
